"Finding good subject matter for paintings is often serendipitous. Our daughter, Elizabeth, forgot her glasses in a hotel one morning and broke our itinerary. While waiting for them to arrive on the evening bus we wandered down a nearby peninsula and found this lovely fortified town. We waited several hours until the sun’s rays brushed across the buildings, producing this beautiful third-dimensional effect.” —Clark Hulings
