Georges Simenon was an amazingly prolific Belgian author, who was best known for his Inspector Maigret novels. He wrote 75 of them! The original title of this one was Maigret, Lognon et les Gangsters. Lognon is the name of another police inspector who is framed and then targeted for a mob hit. I guess when they translated it in 1954 someone shied away from offending “gangsters” and so they changed it to “Killers.” The plot is serpentine and the pace is frenzied.
From the hard yellow background, I sense that this might not have been not my father’s favorite assignment. I love her red nail and his red tie, though.
