This beautiful little painting was completed in 1980. It is exactly square, which makes it a rarity for Clark. The chiaroscuro is terrific, as is the story one imagines when looking at the picture. Did the donkey begin the day with his basket full of flowers that have been sold to others?
Clark was almost as famous for his roses as he was for his donkeys. Here you get both. This little gem is included in, A Gallery of Paintings, and it remains in the family home. The original will never be available. So if you want it, you'll have to content yourself with a giclée.
